In case you were wondering, the Oceanverse Two-Year Anniversary Gathering went well. I’ll have a more detailed report once I import the photos. It may be a holiday weekend, but it’s a busy weekend, one that doesn’t call for much internet time.

In the meantime, take some time to appreciate the labor put forth by the countless droves of web cartoonists. Most are doing it out of love, and sometimes it can be tough work, so sometime tomorrow, stop by your favorite strip’s site and write the creator a little “thank you” note. I assure you, it will mean a lot to them.

Two Years

Two years ago today, Oceanverse debuted on the web. In those years (and the two/three years before that) Oceanverse has been a constant in my life. These have been the most progressive, life changing years of my life, and I had to go ahead and work on a webcomic, too! It may be crazy and it may be more trouble than it’s worth, but I know when I look back at Oceanverse, I will be able to see what I’ve learned and where this strip took me, both physically and emotionally.

An understanding wife is a good thing to have, and she’s the best.

Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and checked out the strip. In the game of webcomics, you’re always trying to get more readers, more eyes on the screen, but sometimes you have to stop and be thankful for those who are here and will be here until the end.

We’ve got about another year to go folks, so hang on. It’s about to get bumpy!

Oceanverse Two-Year Anniversary Gathering

Ok, it’s official. I will be holding an Oceanverse Two-Year Anniversary gathering on Friday, September 3rd from 6-8pm at the Caribou Coffee in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI (on Mack). We will have cake and your first cup of coffee is on me! Please let me know ahead of time if you plan to attend.

Nearly Two Years!

On September 1st, Oceanverse turns 2! Wouldn’t it be cool if we had a little gathering/birthday party for it? Maybe at a Starbucks or something? Unfortunately, I don’t think I have the numbers to pull that off.

Oceanverse #4 Cover Step-By-Step

I hope to have #4 for sale on DCBS in October, but here’s a step-by-step of the cover now.

Since this issue contains Ben’s time travel story and the first act of the current Fish Lord story, I thought I’d go with Ben on the cover and save the giant monsters attacking London for the cover of #5. I wanted a somewhat psychedelic vibe to the cover, kinda like a 60’s rock poster.

Next is the coloring. I added a bit of swirling in the background and based everything else on the big glow emanating from the opening of the capsule. I really like coloring the line art. On a piece like this, black lines would stand out like a sore thumb.

Finally, I besides the logo, I added some text and the “timeline” on the right side. That was a last minute addition, but I think it ties everything together.

I really enjoy trying to make each cover unique by using different styles and techniques. For issue #5, I may try a fully painted piece, but we’ll see…
